Converters and Transformers

Converters and Transformers
Converters are for non-electronic appliances that will be plugged in for short periods. Electronics require a transformer. The 50 watt mini-transformer is very lightweight and can be used with small items like cell phones and battery chargers. Higher wattage appliances require specialized transformers, which can be large and heavy. Our larger transformers all step 220V-240V down to 110V-120V, and accept 2-pin, polarized and 3-pin grounded appliances. They are fuse protected with a LED red light indicating power source. Unlike converters, they may be left on for long stretches of time. Always check the wattage of your appliance to determine which transformer is best for you. Transformers do not convert cycles (60 Hz North America vs. 50 Hz in most other countries) and some appliances may not operate normally overseas, including: televisions and microwave ovens. Consult the appliance manufacturer if you have questions.
